Don't believe everything you see on Social Media

Don't believe everything you see on Social Media

Social Media can be a great for fitness inspiration, but I sure hope you don’t believe everything you see on it.

Most people with large fitness followings are doing paid posts that create an augmented (pun intended) reality surrounding how a body looks and responds to exercise. This doesn't make social media bad, or your favorite fit heroines evil - it just means you need to be careful with what you perceive as reality.

Here are a few things we've seen on social channels lately, and some truth to go with it.

#1: You DON’T need expensive food products to lose weight.

Designer, brand name nutrition bars and diet foods looking gourmet and mouthwatering. And very expensive. But please remember that weight loss is best achieved by eating wholesome, real foods - not dieting, or food binges, which more often than not lead to poor health.

Eat real food, not expensive diet foods.

#2: Transformations are NOT as simple as Eat less and move more.

Fat loss success posts often water-down the truth about what it takes to transform from ‘before’ to ‘after’. The truth is that massive transformations take effort, coaching and laser-like focus.

Massive body transformations are NOT easy, and body type and body history will always govern. Expect to put in hard work and dedication, but there's no way to make yourself look like someone else. You are you - and beautifully so.

#3: You can't eat junk food and look like an IG model.

Just because they are posting about their cheat meal doesn’t mean that’s the way they always eat. Most likely that’s a paid post and the lean fitness model would NEVER really eat that junk food! Or, they CAN eat like that because genetics are kinder to them.

Choose wholesome, real foods instead of junk food because you deserve to fill your body with good things - but also don't guilt yourself if you choose to eat certain foods. There should be ZERO guilt or shame around your food choices.

#4: - You don't have to give up junk or look like a fitness model.

Here's a shocker - you can be fit and healthy and HAPPY without being a fitness model. That doesn't have to be the goal. If you're honest with yourself, chances are you'd really like to keep up with your kids, enjoy your spouse, have enough energy for the things you enjoy - fitness can help you get there, and you don't have to be a size zero to do any of those things.

Fall in love with how fitness makes you feel, and recognize the models are the exception, not the standard.

#5: You CAN’T get flat abs in just a couple of weeks - or maybe ever.

No one wants to hear this, but the truth is that real results take time and they're also a factor of your genetics. You didn’t pack on those unwanted pounds in 3 weeks, so don’t expect to lose it in 3 weeks. But, six pack abs are a full-time job that rely a lot on how you're put together.

Just because you don't have a six pack doesn't mean you can't get there - but it's also not the mark of fitness, either.

#6: You NEED help to achieve maximum results.

If there's one thing fitness models, professional athletes and Olympians have in common is that they enlist help to look and perform at their best. The truth is that people serious about achieve amazing transformations always seek out professional coaching to ensure their success.
