Quick and Easy Makeup Routine for the Busy Mom

It’s early in the morning.  The kids are fussy. You just want to go back to bed, but that’s not an option.  Or you hit the snooze button one too many times and you’re running late for work.

At this point you give up: it feels impossible to find the time or energy to put on makeup. It doesn’t have to be this way, though! We all deserve to look and feel our best.

What if I told you that all you need is five minutes?  Think it’s impossible?  Well, think again. Five minutes is all you need to be able to look presentable to the world -- and possibly to even feel a little bit better about yourself.

1. Your skin is your canvas.

After washing your face, put on a basic hydrating moisturizer.  This will hydrate, plump, and prime your skin for makeup. I personally add a second step with this one and add a sunscreen right over the top, but if that’s too much work, there are plenty of moisturizers with sunscreen built in them.

2. That natural glow.

If you have good skin you can skip this next step.  I personally have pigmentation from acne and pregnancy that needs to be covered up, but I still want my skin to look like skin.  By using a BB or CC cream or a tinted moisturizer, you can even out your skin tone without looking like you are wearing makeup.  Use fingers with these products like you would with a moisturizer, and they will blend in less than 30 seconds.

You could stop right here and head out the door with a 1-minute makeup look.  But if you take a couple extra minutes, you could look even more polished.

3. Fake it ‘til you make it

Next step is to conceal.  If you have great skin and you didn’t use the BB or CC cream, you can just cover minor skin imperfections with a concealer.  If you have dark circles under your eyes, put a couple of dots of concealer on the darkest area and pat it gently into the skin.  Or maybe you have a pimple that showed up over night — pat a tiny bit of concealer over the top for a quick fix.

4. Curl it!

This one is a must in my opinion: curling your eyelashes.  This will make you appear wide-awake, even if you feel like you’re half asleep.  Then apply a couple of coats of mascara.

5. Last but not least…

Finish off your look by hydrating your lips with a lip balm or a nice pop of color. I find that when I’m tired, if I add a pop of color to my lips, it immediately brightens my whole face. This could be any lip product from lip gloss to lip stain; just swipe and go.  I usually keep my gloss in my purse and reapply throughout the day.

So there you have it, a quick and easy makeup routine that will make you look your best even if you only have five minutes! Learn more about Karyn here.
