Do you eat your feelings? Read This.

It happens with most of us.

You have a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day… and at the end of it you turn to food.

There’s a reason that it’s called comfort food. While you’re eating it you feel better.

And when you’re done eating it you feel worse.

Keep this in mind next time you are tempted to turn to food for comfort: Emotional eating temporarily relieves distress and then makes it impossible to attain what you really want.

How do you really want to feel? It’s tempting to make food choices based on how we’ll feel in the moment, but what’s worked well for me is thinking about how I’ll feel ten minutes later, and factor that into my decision.

Let’s be real - when I eat things that don’t agree with my body, it often tastes AH-MAZING. But it doesn’t take long for that to change.

This is about more than weight loss, and has NOTHING to do with guilt. (See our post on feeling guilty here.)

This is about you feeling amazing and doing good things for yourself - because you DESERVE to feel amazing and have great things happen for you.

You’re not alone. Every human being is an emotional eater, and what differentiates us is what emotional associations we have with food. Success in this area comes with re-programming your associations with food, which is something we specialize in here at 5:17!

You can’t control what happens to you, but you can control how you respond. If you’re looking for an encouraging, empowering environment to thrive, we’ve got the accountability and encouragement to help you realize your full potential.
