The Balance Lie | Personal Training in Campbell

Most of what we claim about balance is a lie.

Okay, so that’s a little blunt, but here’s the case for it - to truly balance, one must make the commitment to stand on one foot and hold, leaving the other out of the equation.

Balancing isn’t juggling. It’s not switching back and forth from one to the other. It’s not chaotic rushing around trying to keep things from crashing.

Balance is being fully present with what’s in front of you.

It means when you’re with your family, you’re with your family; when you’re in the meeting, the meeting has your focus; when you’re engaging in self-care, you’re the center of attention.

Research proves time and again that humans are incapable of multitasking. Need proof? Just consider this:

Have you had luck answering emails and doing story time? How did you retain the meeting while worrying about a child’s school performance? Ever feel more relaxed from a workout or massage when it was an hour spent stressing about a deadline?

Balance isn’t easy to achieve, but it can be found by assessing values and allowing them to dictate priorities. Then let go of what’s not top priority. Balance.

The best way to achieve it is to practice. You may need a limb (or two) for support, but what first feels wobbly and unstable becomes strong and secure, with time. The payoff is life itself.

With balance comes a bold, confident approach to every life endeavor, the ability to settle in, thrive and feel fully alive in the experiences, obstacles and successes life brings.

A balanced life is calm, calculated, intentional. It’s life lived, rather than life happened.
